We had a trip to Miami planned September of last year down to a tee (and as usual) a printed itinerary, our suitcases were even half packed. Unfortunately though, just a couple of days before we were due to fly on our jolly way, hurricanes beyond our control sort of ruined the day.
And so after months of dusting ourselves off, we decided we should try and take our little getaway again, South Beach called to us. I can inform you of fantastic news, we made it both there and back in one piece this time. To prove it, here is a little collection of our time in South Beach. I do have to admit though that the weather was only half kind to us but we figured as we’re lucky enough to live in a tropical place, we didn’t mind so much. Half kind in that some days it was hot enough to burn and on the bleaker days, enough rain to ruin your nice shoes. So, due to the patchy weather you’ll notice, a lot of our time was taken up with eating sublime food in various spots.
Enough words. Enjoy my favourite snapshots from our escapades around South Beach.
And so in the infamous words of Mr Will Smith “Welcome to Miami”….”Bienvenido a Miami”
We stayed at the chic ‘Gale‘ hotel located just minutes from the South Beach strip. Right in the hustle and bustle and convenient walking distance to most things you would hope to see in this area
This was my absolute favourite little botanical corner of Miami, or anywhere really. An onsite herb garden feels as though it was designed just for me. Located within the ‘1 Hotel South Beach’ I’ll introduce the delectable, botanical hot-spot Habitat…
I was able to name most the plants on this plot and as a reward, I got to pick a fresh lime straight from the tree
Don’t be a stranger and be sure to say hello to the infamous ‘Roberto’ who you’ll surely find on your visit to Habitat or if you fancy passing by for a takeaway dose of caffeine on the move
Time for a spot of coffee and a cool off. Our wanderings led us to the lovely ‘Shepherd’, a sweet little artisan coffee shop nestled among the hysteria of South Beach
Wherever there are books, I can be found nearby
Panic not, God did not misplace his dippy egg this morning…
This is an exhibit by The Betsy Hotel. Thus introducing the Betsy Orb, a clever little architectural structure to connect the two buildings that it’s perceived to be wedged between
Wynwood Art District
We visited the Wynwood area a couple of times but, for all the art vibes and enough colour to make your eyes burst, read all about it in my previous blog post ‘Wynwood Walls, Miami‘. Let me just do a quick mash-up to give you a rough idea of what to expect…
This particular Wynwood visit was dedicated to food and cocktails.
This is the fantabulous ‘Wynwood Diner‘. A late dinner was already booked for later in the evening but this looked like the perfect spot for a cocktail or 2 or, when it’s happy hour, many many more.
When you both wear your white skinny jeans and neither of you wish to change, so you just embrace the ‘His and Hers’ vibe, just for a night though…
Full disclosure here, it might have been the drink(s) or it might just be fact that we were having the best time but, we took our jolly selves off for dinner at the sublime ‘Alter‘ and I decided to turn my camera off and just take it all in. Take my word for it though, if you’re wanting something interesting, different and with a kind of underground moody vibe, I’d take your butt to Alter ASAP.
Our final day, well, half a day…
A Ceconni’s Breakfast
Rosetta (The Italian Bakery) – for the ultimate doughnut
Wow! There was a lot of food in there?! Oh well, it was all worth it and I highly recommend every single one of those places.
Here is where I now leave you. If you enjoyed this post then there will be a couple of scorching hot restaurant reviews popping up on the blog in the next few days so, be sure to keep your eyes peeled. I hope you enjoyed this somewhat randomly selected pile of photos. Any favourites?
I hope to see you here again for my upcoming posts… so stay classy and thanks for stopping by. But mainly stay classy… and thanks for stopping by. Stay classy!
